Day 1, Friday, May 2, 2025

Your day begins with one of Bucket List Tour's morning SWEET TREATS. Arrive in Washington DC and meet our local guide at the HILLWOOD ESTATE, MUSEUM, AND GARDENS. The mansion is the former home of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and features one of the most comprehensive collections of eighteenth and nineteenth-century Russian Imperial art outside of Russia, as well as an extensive collection of eighteenth-century French decorative arts. Highlights include a diamond crown worn by Empress Alexandra at her marriage to Nicholas II; Beauvais tapestries designed by François Boucher; two Imperial Easter eggs by Carl Fabergé; La Nuit by William-Adolphe Bouguereau; and a collection of costumes and accessories worn by Mrs. Post or her family. The greenhouse and formal gardens are set among 25 acres of wooded hillsides located in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Next lunch is on your own at the Reagan Building International Trade Center Food Court. Dine with us in DC’s favorite food court. With 17 eateries featuring flavors from around the world, you’re sure to find a dish that will please your palate.

Onward to the WHITE HOUSE VISITOR CENTER. The Visitor Center exhibit areas feature approximately 100 historical artifacts, interpretive panels, looping videos of photos and archival footage, and interactive elements for visitors of all ages. Visitors can explore an interactive touchscreen tour of the White House, view over 90 artifacts from the White House collection, and view the 14-minute film, White House: Reflections from Within.

Our daytime driving tour will include a PHOTO OPPORTUNITY STOP AT THE WHITE HOUSE, and a visit to the WWI MEMORIAL, VIETNAM MEMORIAL, AND KOREAN MEMORIAL.

DINNER this evening is included at TONY & JOE’S SEAFOOD PLACE at Washington Harbor. This upscale restaurant on the waterfront in Georgetown features floor-to-ceiling windows & outdoor seating providing scenic river views as patrons dine on the freshest of seafood.

Continue with an ILLUMINATED MONUMENT DRIVING TOUR. Washington’s grand buildings, memorials, and monuments sparkle and are impressive during the day; but in the evenings they are illuminated, and soft, focusing the solid stones and bronzes; fountains and water features shimmer in reflection; shadows darken highlighting the floodlit detail. Impressive during the day – stunning at night!

Walk through the KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS. Explore the Hall of Flags, see the larger-than-life bronze bust of Kennedy himself, see the incredible view of the city from the rooftop terrace, discover the new REACH Expansion, and experience the NEW Art Ideas: John F. Kennedy Exhibit! Two months after President Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963, Congress designated the National Cultural Center as a living memorial to Kennedy. We will drive by other memorials and monuments as time permits.

Your Guide will escort you through the streets of the Capital and expertly navigate your group quickly and effectively to explore the unique offerings of each Embassy—who routinely try to outdo each other, year after year, with impressive spectacles reminiscent of their homeland. For many of these Embassies, this is the only time they make themselves open and available for public touring during the entire year.

Explore the FLOWER MART which holds an irresistible array of festival foods, children’s rides, boutique gifts, and, of course, herbs and flowers that once again fill the nave and grounds of the Cathedral at this year’s Flower Mart, Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many food vendors.

See the WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL. (Tours inside the Cathedral are based on availability and not guaranteed). Standing higher than the Washington Monument, it is the sixth-largest church in the world. This 14th-century-style Gothic wonder is situated on 57 acres and took 83 years to build. Helen Keller and Woodrow Wilson, the only President buried in Washington, DC, are interred here. It is a living symbol of our country’s heritage of faith and religious freedom.
